
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 07: In a colourful and educative event aimed at creating awareness among farmers about improved cattle breeds and scientific livestock management practices, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) successfully organised a Calf Show on 05.04.2026 at the Ambedkar Mela, Flood Light Ground, Ograbraj.
Nine enthusiastic farmers actively participated in the show, proudly presenting their calves and highlighting the benefits of proper animal care, regular deworming, and selection of superior breeds. The event was held under the guidance of Dr. K. A. Naveen, Director, AH&VS. The judging panel comprised Dr. K. A. Naveen,Director (AH&VS), Mr. Mohammed Shafique, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Mithakhari, and Dr. Ninad, Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Dispensary Manglutan.
Calves were evaluated on important parameters including hair coat condition, deworming status, breed characteristics, and overall health. The show effectively educated participating farmers on the importance of timely deworming, balanced nutrition, animal health maintenance, and optimal breed selection for enhancing productivity and income from dairy farming.
The programme was successfully coordinated by the Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Dispensary Port Mout, and received excellent response from the farming community. Such events play a vital role in promoting best practices in livestock rearing and strengthening the dairy sector in the islands.
