
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 24: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, met Dr. Vineet Joshi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi, today to follow up the important issue relating to the establishment of a Central University in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands instead of a Deemed to be University.
During the discussion, the Member of Parliament submitted a letter on the Central University issue and also handed over a copy of the text of speech raised by him in Parliament on 23.03.2026, requesting that the same may be taken into account along with the matter already taken up by him earlier and treated as part of his continued representations submitted earlier on the subject of central university.
Apart from the Central University issue, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray also apprised the Secretary about the urgent need to fill up the vacant posts of Professors and Associate Professors on a regular basis in all degree colleges of the Islands. He further stressed the need for improvement and creation of necessary infrastructure and other essential facilities as per the prescribed norms under the relevant education provisions in the existing colleges, for the betterment of students, quality education and their future career prospects.
After hearing the issues presented by the Member of Parliament, the Secretary informed that the matters brought to his notice are being looked into and are under active consideration.
