Port Blair, May 28: On 24th May Andaman Sheekha had reported that the Neil Islands has become totally disconnected from rest of the world due to failure of BSNL network. Surprising on 25 May 2013, all of a sudden, the BSNL network re-appeared miraculously in Neil Island and all land line phones also started working. But again within 12 – 14 hours the network went missing. At present most of the time the Neil Island remains disconnected from rest of the world, as neither mobile nor land line phones work.
In a place like A & N Islands, where there is always a threat of earthquakes and tsunami, such poor service of BSNL may prove fatal in future.
Sources in BSNL told Andaman Sheekha as the BSNL station at Neil Island does not have power back up facilities, most of the time the BSNL equipments do not work and hence mobile and landline phones remain dead.
Surprisingly neither the Deputy Commissioner nor the Chief Secretary is taking any action against BSNL for such poor service and for troubling remote Islanders.
It is learnt that Airtel is planning to launch its services in Neil Island soon and hence public allege that this has been done purposefully to divert all BSNL customers towards Airtel.
