Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 27: In a tragic development following the recent Pawan Hans helicopter accident near Mayabunder, a woman who had been critically injured in the incident has succumbed to her injuries at G.B. Pant Hospital.
The accident occurred on February 24 at Mayabunder, when a helicopter reportedly made a forced landing into the sea under emergency circumstances. All passengers on board were initially rescued in a swift operation carried out by local islanders and rescue teams. The timely response had raised hopes that all those involved would survive the mishap.
However, one of the passengers, identified as Mrs. Nambi Amma, believed to be a resident of Rampur and associated with the Mayabunder region, was in critical condition after the rescue. She was referred to G.B. Pant Hospital in Sri Vijaya Puram, next day for advanced medical treatment. According to sources, she was placed on ventilator support due to the severity of her injuries and remained in a serious condition since then.
Despite the efforts of doctors and medical staff, reports confirmed a short while ago that she passed away during treatment at G B Pant Hospital. Her death has cast a shadow of grief across the islands, particularly in Mayabunder, where residents had been closely following updates on her condition.
The rescue operation following the crash had been widely discussed across the islands. Local residents played a crucial role in saving the passengers from the sea. During the transfer of the injured woman to the hospital, Andaman Sheekha Daily reported about difficulties faced by the ambulance en route.
While investigations into the exact cause of the helicopter force landing accident are awaited, this marks the first fatality linked to the incident. The news has been received with deep sorrow across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
