Port Blair, May 26: The debrief of Coastal Security Exercise, Tatsuraksha 01/13 was held in the conference hall of Secretariat on Friday. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary, Mr Anand Prakash. The Director General of Police, Mr Sudhir Singh Yadav and representatives from 16 government agencies attended the meeting.
The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of effective patrolling off East Island in the Northern group of Islands and suggested to set up detachment in this Island. The DGP expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the exercise and emphasised on the need to overcome the shortcomings observed during the exercise in a time bound manner by the concerned agencies.
In his opening remarks, Inspector General VSR Murthy, Commander Coast Guard Region, A & N Region stated that remarkable success of the Coastal Security exercise was due to the perfect synergy and coordination amongst various stakeholders of Coastal Security, which includes Defence services, State Administration, A & N Police, Department of Forest, Fisheries and the Int agencies. The Mass awareness drive, Community Interactions programmes & special briefings organised prior to exercise have yielded desired results. Effective planning and well coordinated surveillance/patrolling efforts by the security agencies, properly backed by actionable intelligence by Int agencies made it difficult for the intruders to penetrate the security barriers.
A detailed presentation on Tatsuraksha exercise was given by Commandant T Ashish, Regional Ops and Plans Officer. The observations and lessons learnt were discussed in detail and steps to enhance the effectiveness of Coastal Security Network were also deliberated. The excellent role played and high spirits displayed by the A & N Police despite sad demise of Dr S Srikant SP (Nicobar) during exercise was applauded, a CG release says.
