
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 25: The two- week Capacity Building Programme on “Sustainable Fishing Practices: Balancing Conservation and Livelihoods in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands” organized by the EIACP Centre on Island Biodiversity, Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries and Fishery Survey of India concluded on 24th Jan. The Valedictory function of the two-week Capacity Building Programme held on 24th Jan at ZSI.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Department of Environment and Forests, A & N Islands urged trained participants to serve as conservation ambassadors and raise awareness in their local communities.
Dr. Jai Sunder, Director-in-Charge, ICAR-CIARI, A&N Islands, in his speech emphasised that self-sufficiency and economic expansion must coexist with sustainability and conservation.
Mr. B. Balanayak, Mechanical Marine Engineer, Fishery Survey of India, A&N Islands underlined the significance of striking a balance between the preservation of aquatic biodiversity and the stability of fishing communities’
Earlier, Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Additional Director, ZSI & Programme Coordinator, EIACP Centre on Island Biodiversity, welcomed the gathering.
