Sri Vijaya Puram, September 7: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations began in Sri Vijaya Puram today (September 7), as the organising team announced its ambitious plan to create another record-breaking giant laddu, targeting a weight of more than 5,000 kg.
Addressing the media after the inaugural puja, Chef Ashwar Pal Singh said September 7 marked a historic day for the company 4- Seasons Event Management and the entire team, which had been preparing for the event throughout the year. He recalled that the team had created what it described as India’s largest laddu in Andaman in 2025, and said efforts were now underway to surpass that achievement this year and bring further recognition to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Chef Ashwar Pal Singh said the seven-day celebration will be held at Four Seasons, VIP Road, where the team will undertake the extensive preparations required to make the giant laddu. He said the entire team has been working towards achieving the target of producing a laddu weighing over 5,000 kg.
“The arrival of Bappa has taken place today, and as you can see, Bappa is now seated here,” he said, adding that the team hopes to present the historic giant laddu to the public within the coming days.
According to him, the grand laddu will be displayed for the public on September 13. The display will open at around 11:00–11:30 am, and he appealed to residents of the islands and visitors to attend the venue in large numbers and witness the special celebration and seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
He further announced that a grand procession will be taken out on September 14 at 2:00 pm. The procession will begin from the celebration venue and pass through several parts of Sri Vijaya Puram before proceeding towards Netaji Club, with the giant laddu and Lord Ganesha forming the centrepiece of the event.
Inviting people from across the islands as well as visitors to participate, Chef Ashwar Pal Singh said the team wants the occasion to become a historic moment for Andaman and Nicobar.
He also highlighted the environmental theme of this year’s celebration, described as “Nature and Tradition”. He appealed to devotees not to offer cash donations, stating that the organisers would not accept money. Instead, those wishing to contribute have been requested to provide small plants, which the team plans to distribute and plant at different locations as part of its effort to promote greenery and environmental conservation in the islands.
The celebrations will continue from September 7 to September 13, with puja being conducted at the venue. Aarti will be held twice daily at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. The organisers have also made arrangements for food and prasad for devotees visiting the venue.
Chef Ashwar Pal Singh urged islanders to join the celebrations and become part of the effort to create what the organisers hope will be another historic giant laddu for Andaman and Nicobar.
