
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 22: In a significant step towards strengthening birding activities, research, and community participation in avian conservation across the islands, the Andaman Avians Club convened its 9th Annual General Meeting, during which the new managing committee for the term 2025–2027 was formally constituted.
The meeting was held on 28 October 2025 at Megapode Resort and was attended by active members and representatives of the club. During the meeting, office bearers for the next two-year term were unanimously elected. Dr. Ashwini Kr. Malle was elected as President, Mrs. Asha Rajan as Vice-President, G. Thikanna as General Secretary, Padumma Gohain as Joint Secretary, and Ram Vikas as Treasurer. The managing committee was further strengthened with the inclusion of P. Divya Prasad, Harsimran Singh, and Reuben K. Paul as committee members.
The newly elected committee reaffirmed its commitment to promoting bird conservation across the Andaman Islands through awareness initiatives, bird festivals, and active engagement of youth in ornithology and nature education. The club also emphasized its plans to enhance collaboration with local institutions and environmental organizations to support sustainable eco-tourism initiatives and advance conservation-oriented research in the region.
