Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 15: Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Adhyaksh, South Andaman Zilla Parishad has said that the inauguration of Veer Savarkar Prerna Park at Beodnabad Panchayat marks a major milestone in local development and tourism promotion in South Andaman.
Speaking about the park, Mr. Adhikari said the project was a collective effort of the Zilla Parishad, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration. He recalled that on the 12th of this month, the park was inaugurated, turning the site into a landmark of national importance.
He explained that the park was originally proposed as a children’s park by the Zilla Parishad. Later, following a request from ‘Valuable’ a reputed NGO from Maharashtra, the Zilla Parishad House passed a resolution to name it Veer Savarkar Prerna Park and to install Savarkar’s statue.
Expressing gratitude, Mr. Adhikari praised the Zilla Parishad engineering team for working tirelessly, often late into the night, to complete the project on time. He also acknowledged the support of Zilla Parishad members, officials, and the Chief Executive Officer, as well as local representatives for resolving land and clearance issues.
Calling the inauguration a historic moment for the islands, Mr. Adhikari said the park has already emerged as a new tourist attraction, witnessing a significant rise in visitors since its opening. He noted that tourism is the key industry for employment among island youth, and the park will further strengthen local economic opportunities.
He urged that self-help groups and local youth be allowed to operate stalls offering local food, handicrafts and products at the park, which would directly support livelihoods in the area. He also appealed for further development of the site to maximise benefits for the local community.
Concluding, Mr. Adhikari invited residents and tourists alike to visit Veer Savarkar Prerna Park at Beodnabad, stating that along with nearby destinations like Chidiya Tapu and Mundapahad, the park will significantly enhance tourism flow and overall development in South Andaman.
