Mayabunder, December 02: In a touching display of humanity and service, the Mayabunder Police were widely applauded on Friday evening for their prompt and compassionate assistance to the family of Mr. Montalay, a retired driver of the Electricity Department, who passed away at RP Hospital, Mayabunder, between 7:30 and 8:00 PM.
The grieving family, already overwhelmed by the sudden loss, faced further distress when the private vehicle they had arranged to transport the mortal remains to their residence became unavailable at the last moment. Struggling to find an alternative, the family reached out for help.
Upon receiving the information, Inspector Abdul Sajid, Station House Officer of Mayabunder, immediately intervened and issued clear and urgent instructions to assist the family. Responding without delay, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar Meena, along with Police Constable M. Nasir and Home Guard Chayan Das, rushed to the hospital with a police van.
The team respectfully transported the deceased from the hospital to the family home, offering not only logistical support but also emotional comfort during a moment of profound sorrow. Their timely response brought immense relief to the bereaved family.
Residents of Mayabunder and the family members of the deceased have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the police administration for their exemplary service, compassion, and commitment to public welfare. They noted that the gesture reflects the police’s role not only as law enforcers but also as protectors and supporters of society in its most difficult moments.
Special appreciation was also extended to Ms. K. Swetha Sugathan, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman, whose leadership continues to uphold the values of empathy, responsibility, and round-the-clock public service.
