Port Blair, May 07: Responding to the demand raised by the lone Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, Bishnu Pada Ray, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad has agreed to set up new Sub-Health Centres in the remote areas of the Islands, based on the norms of “Time to Care”.
Communicating the decision through his letter addressed to Ray, the Minster said that the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has been asked to send the list of such remote areas to ministry at earliest, where the Islands need such Sub Health Centres.
Azad in his letter to the MP also said that the new Sub Health Centres will be set up within 30 minutes of walk from the habitation, to make them accessible for the people living in the remote areas of Islands.
Ray had written a letter to the Minister on 28th February 2013 requesting him to set up new sub health centres in the remote villages of A & N Islands, as the people are suffering a lot due to the unavailability of the health facilities.
Ray had also called on Azad seveal times at New Delhil and requested him to appoint the unemployed 300 GNM Nurses to utilize their services in these Centres.
Meanwhile the Andaman MP has expressed gratitude towards the Minister of Health and Family Welfare for this decision.
“The Ministry has brought smiles on the faces of the people of deprived areas of the Islands. Similarly long wait of the unemployed trained Nurses will end soon with this decision,” Ray said in a press communication.
