
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 11: The inaugural season of the much-awaited Police Soccer League – 2025 (PSL–2025) commenced with an impressive opening ceremony followed by a thrilling inaugural match at IRBn Headquarters, Port Mout. The event also witnessed a solemn homage as the playground at IRBn Headquarters was named after Late Head Constable (GD) Goma Barraik, who laid down his life in the line of duty, to honour and cherish the legacy of the fallen hero in the presence of his family members.
The league-cum-knockout tournament features a total of 28 participating teams from various local clubs, educational institutions, and youth organizations from across the Islands, divided into four pools, with matches being held under day and night conditions at Goma sports park to ensure greater participation and public engagement.
The chief guest Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police accompanied by Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Commandant (IRBn), Mrs. Apoorva Gupta, IPS, and other senior officers of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, kicked off the opening match between Divyanka NFC, Diglipur, and Spark’s Boys, Bird Line, witnessing a thrilling 1–0 victory for the former, setting an energetic tone for the competition ahead.
The event marked a significant initiative by the India Reserve Battalion to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness, and camaraderie within the police fraternity while fostering stronger Police–Public relations through the unifying spirit of football
The league matches will continue over the coming weeks, culminating in the semifinals and grand finale later next month.
