Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 10: CRC, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in association with Kamraj English Medium School (KEMS), Brookshabad, observed “World Mental Health Day 2025” with an insightful awareness and training programme focused on promoting mental well-being among students.
The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Beena, Principal, KEMS, who extended a warm welcome to all participants and emphasized the significance of nurturing emotional balance among children and youth. She underscored the importance of observing World Mental Health Day as a collective reminder to care for one’s mind as much as one’s body.
Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC, A & N Islands, highlighted the global importance of mental health as a human right, stressing the need for early intervention and the pivotal role of educational institutions in shaping emotionally resilient students. She reiterated that schools serve as a vital foundation for fostering mental strength and empathy among young minds.
The programme was attended by the Administrative Officer Mr. Biswajit Roy, CRC-A&N Islands, professionals, and interns from Andaman College (ANCOL), who lent their active support to the initiative.
The technical session featured Ms. Rajalakshmi, Counsellor, KEMS, as the resource person. She sensitized students to practical strategies for managing stress, cultivating mindfulness, and maintaining a balanced emotional state. Through engaging examples, she encouraged students to build self-awareness, manage peer pressure, and develop positive coping skills.
Adding depth to the observance, ANCOL BSc Psychology interns delivered short thematic talks on crucial aspects of mental well-being such as study techniques, self-care, time management, mindfulness, positive thinking, self-esteem, sleep and stress, peer pressure, and career focus. Their presentations reflected an encouraging level of awareness and empathy among the youth.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion that encouraged students to express their thoughts and experiences. The session reinforced a powerful message — “mental health is essential for all, and collective awareness and understanding can foster healthier, more compassionate communities.
The event stood as a reminder that mental well-being is not a privilege but a universal human right — one that demands attention, respect, and action from all sectors of society.
