
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 07: Renowned legal academician and former Vice chancellor of NLU Bhopal and Lucknow Prof. Balraj Chauhan urged the educational institutions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to rise to the needs of Islanders. They should develop the curriculum and syllabus of their colleges to provide answers to the ‘issues’ faced by the island population. He visited Andaman Law College on Friday evening (7th November) and addressed the faculty and students. Prof. Chauhan is also a former member of UP Law Commission and Member of UP State Legal Service Authority. During his hour-long discussion, he underlined the need to understand the issues of islands and its people in the areas of forest, wildlife, social realities etc. He assured to extend all possible support to the Law college. Prof. Chauhan is former president of Indian Society of Criminology and Member Committee on Reforms in Criminal Law. He complemented the college with the way it is performed in terms of academic instruction and other extension activities. He stressed the need to align with NGOs, Advocate fraternity and other colleges from the mainland. Principal Dr P.V.Nagendra Sarma presided. He felicitated Prof Chauhan on this occasion. Prof. Chauhan said that his visit to islands went well and he complemented the A & N Administration for developing it as a tourist hub. He consented to be a member of BoS in Law of Andaman Law College.
