Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 23: As part of observance of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) – October 2025, the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the A&N Police Department, organized a Cyber Awareness Programme today in the Conference Hall of the IP&T Department, Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme was attended by tourism stakeholders, tour and travel operators, and representatives from various segments of the tourism industry.
The event was organized in pursuance of the directions received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, designating the month of October 2025 to be observed as National Cyber Security Awareness Month across the country. The campaign, spearheaded by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), aims to generate awareness among citizens and institutions regarding the threats posed by cybercrime and to promote safe and responsible digital practices.
Welcoming the participants, the Director (Tourism) emphasized the increasing vulnerability of the tourism sector to cyber threats, highlighting instances where tourists and service providers have fallen prey to online fraudsters through fake websites, payment scams, and data misuse. He urged all stakeholders to adopt secure digital practices and remain vigilant while handling online transactions and communications. The Director also encouraged participants to share their suggestions and feedback for strengthening cyber safety in the tourism ecosystem, assuring that the Department is ready to extend full cooperation and support for any collaborative measures or awareness initiatives in this regard.
Addressing the participants, officials from the Police Department sensitized the attendees about various types of cyber frauds, the importance of cyber hygiene, and safe online practices, especially in handling digital transactions, customer data, and online communication in the tourism and hospitality sectors. The participants were also briefed about the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and mechanisms for lodging complaints related to cyber offences.
The Department of Tourism highlighted that cyber awareness is a key component of responsible tourism, given the increasing dependence on digital platforms for travel booking, payments, and promotion. The Department reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen stakeholder capacity, promote safe digital behaviour, and collaborate with other Departments for effective implementation of NCSAM activities across the Islands.
