
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 21: In a swift and well-coordinated operation aimed at curbing the illegal liquor trade, a vigilant team from PS Baratang, led by SI Subramani, SHO PS Baratang, along with HC G. Madhav Rao, PCs M. Ashok Kumar, Suresh Kumar and Servai, conducted a surprise vehicle checking drive at South Creek on 19/10/2025.
During the checking, the police team intercepted a suspicious vehicle and upon thorough inspection, recovered 420 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) that were being illegally transported. The person in possession of the liquor was identified as V. Duraichamy S/o Shri Vattautham (47 yrs) Pvt. Worker, R/o School Line near Shiv Temple, Sri Vijaya Puram. On being questioned, he failed to produce any valid permit or license authorizing the transportation or possession of such a large quantity of liquor.
Following this, the entire consignment of liquor along with the vehicle used in the transportation was seized on the spot, and a case under the relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation has been registered against the accused at Police Station Baratang. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the liquor consignment.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police continues its relentless efforts to eradicate illegal liquor activities and ensure strict enforcement of excise laws throughout the islands. Regular checking drives, surprise raids, and targeted enforcement actions are being carried out to dismantle such unlawful networks.
