Harinagar/Pinakinagar, Oct. 01: The road and culvert at Pinakinagar Ward No. 2 have caved in today thereby putting the residents of the entire region to face severe commuting woes.
According to information, the road and culvert near the house of Biren Halder at Pinakinagar Ward No. 2 (on the connecting village road from Pinakinagar Yuva Samiti towards Kamalapur village) have subsided on 01-10-2025. This has resulted in a complete breakdown of transportation and is posing serious risks to the safety of the residents. The cause of the collapse of the road and culvert is stated to be the recent torrential rain in the region.
Furthermore, a similar sliding has occurred near the house of Nirmal Biswas at Kamalapur village, causing additional disruption on the same rural road. These damages have completely cut off connectivity, isolating communities and obstructing access to essential services, including healthcare, education, and emergency support.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Harinagar, Mr. Manojit Halder said that the road and culvert near the house of Biren Halder at Pinakinagar Ward No. 2 have been severely damaged, with significant sliding and collapse of the parapet wall, rendering the road impassable.
Furthermore, a similar sliding has occurred near the house of Nirmal Biswas at Kamalapur village, causing additional disruption on the same rural road. These damages have completely cut off connectivity, isolating communities and obstructing access to essential services, including healthcare, education, and emergency support; while the road in near Nirmal Biswas’ House, Kamalapur Village has also experienced substantial sliding, further disrupting connectivity and endangering the safety of commuters.
Gauging the magnitude of the situation, the GP Harinagar Pradhan has reportedly written a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman apprising her of the commuting woes that cropped up owing to the sudden caving in of the roads and culvert in the region and with an urge to impress upon the Officials of the concerned Depts. to conduct an immediate assessment of the affected areas and to undertake necessary repair and restoration work to restore connectivity and ensure public safety, Mr. Halder informed.
