Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 29: The 62nd National Chess Championship 2025 is currently underway at Vignan University, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, bringing together the finest chess talent from across the country. Widely regarded as the most prestigious and toughest national-level chess championship, the event has drawn nearly 400 participants, including around 40 Grandmasters and International Masters, making it one of the strongest editions in recent years.
Adding pride to the islands, four players from Andaman & Nicobar Islands are participating in this prestigious championship viz WCM Kasthuri Bhai R, J S Virat, T Sathiya Moorthy, and V Yashwant. Their participation marks a significant achievement and provides invaluable exposure at the highest level of national competition.
With a whopping total prize fund of ₹30 lakhs, to be distributed among the top ten players, the championship has raised high expectations and promises intense battles on the board.
