
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 30: In a meaningful step towards promoting digital learning in the remote corners of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Rotary Club of Port Blair has donated a 32-inch Smart TV to the Government Primary School, Shoal Bay 8. The initiative aims to enrich the teaching-learning process and provide a modern educational experience to the 34 students enrolled in the school.
The donation ceremony was graced by Smti. Zubaida Banu, Head Mistress, who commended the Rotary Club for its thoughtful contribution and underlined the importance of technology in bridging the educational divide between urban and rural areas.
The Smart TV was formally handed over by Rtn. Deepak Kumar, President, Rotary Club of Port Blair, accompanied by Past President Rtn. Dr. Dinesh, Secretary Rtn. Arun Srivastava, and Past President Rtn. Dhinakaran. The visiting members were warmly received by parents, teachers, and students, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support.
In addition to the Smart TV, gift hampers were distributed to all the students, adding joy and encouragement to the young learners.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. Deepak Kumar reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to education and social development, stating,
“Rotary Club of Port Blair will continue to contribute towards the holistic development of children and society.”
Past President Rtn. Dr. Dinesh highlighted some of the Club’s major projects in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands since 1983, including the construction of a Tsunami Shelter at Hut Bay, installation of six Dialysis machines at Pillar Hospital, organising free oral pre-cancer camp at Dinesh Dental Clinic, Multi-speciality medical camps, Dental camps in remote areas, establishment of JNRM Boys & Ladies Hostel, distribution of artificial limbs and distribution of over 500 SCAW kits, Spell Bee and Quiz competitions, Vermibed & Vermi compost at Girls School, provision of solar lanterns at remote Bongaon village, as well as eye camps and cataract surgeries for the underprivileged.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the school authorities, who emphasized how such contributions can positively transform rural education and motivate children to learn with greater enthusiasm.
This initiative aligns with Vidyanjali 2.0, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, aimed at strengthening schools through active community and private sector involvement across the country.
A small gesture with a big impact, the donation reflects Rotary’s enduring belief that when community and compassion come together, smiles and opportunities multiply.
