Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 27:Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council with the support of the Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee, Department of Science & Technology, organized a Swachhata Workshop on ‘Ill Effects of Single Use Plastics’ yesterday at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 fortnight celebrations.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 156 attendees, including college students, teachers, Revenue Officials and Water Section staff of SVPMC. Students from three institutions viz. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Old Pahargaon), Industrial Training Institute (Dollygunj), and Pondicherry University actively took part in the programme.
The resource person for the session was Prof. Manju Nair, Department of Geography, JNRM, a distinguished environmentalist, in her insightful address, stressed upon the harmful consequences of plastic pollution on human health, marine life, and the ecosystem. She urged students to lead by example in reducing plastic use and shared practical measures for adopting sustainable habits in daily life.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the presence and support of the participants, colleges and officials who contributed to the success of the workshop.
In continuation of the campaign, SVPMC also organised Swasthya Evam Swachhta, Kabaddi and Football matches at Netaji Stadium for Safai Mitras, with the objective of keeping the body fit while promoting the spirit of cleanliness. The sporting events witnessed enthusiastic participation and created a vibrant atmosphere, further strengthening the message of linking health with hygiene.
