Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 4 of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Marine Fishing Regulation, 2003 (No. 1 of 2003) and in pursuance of Rule 15 of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Marine Fishing Rules, 2004 the Department of Fisheries has notified designated sea areas identified for leasing to undertake Fish Culture including Seaweed Cultivation and installation of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs).
This initiative has been undertaken up by the Department of Fisheries to promote Mariculture activities in the islands, including Open Sea Cage Culture, Seaweed Farming, Pearl Culture, and the installation of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) which aims to enhance sustainable livelihood opportunities, augmentation of marine fish production through eco-friendly and scientifically managed practices, and to ensure efficient and responsible utilization of the rich marine resources of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
