Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: The 10th Ayurveda Day, with the theme ‘Ayurveda for People and Planet’, was celebrated today at the Community Hall, Ayush Gram Wandoor. The event was jointly organized by the AYUSH Wing of the Directorate of Health Services and A&N State AYUSH Society. Dr. H.M. Siddharaju, Deputy Director (Family Welfare) as the chief guest emphasized the importance of integrating different systems of medicine to tackle lifestyle disorders and underlined the need for regular screening of patients. Shri Adhir Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor as the guest of honor appreciated the initiatives of the AYUSH Wing of the Health Department for improving community health and highlighted the relevance of an Ayurvedic lifestyle.
The guests also inaugurated an exhibition showcasing Ayurvedic medicinal plants, Panchakarma procedures, NCD screening, Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, Ayurveda Medical Camp, Anaemia Screening Camp, and healthy food recipes. ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi Workers from nearby villages actively participated in a recipe competition, and the winners were felicitated by the chief guest.
Dr. Kalyan P. Kadbhane, Deputy Director (AYUSH), welcomed the gathering. A power point presentation on ‘Healthy Living through Ayurveda’ was presented by Dr. Vaishali, MO (Ayur), AYUSH. Dr. Annie Das, MO I/c Manglutan, stressed the role of Ayurveda in daily life and advocated for integrated approaches to disease management.
The dignitaries participated in a plantation drive under the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at the Sub Health Centre, Wandoor. Ayurvedic kits and medicinal saplings were also distributed free of cost to the public. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suryakant Singh, Nodal Officer.
The event saw the participation of over 200 individuals, including villagers, students, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, their families, and staff from PHC Manglutan and Ayush Hospital. The participants appreciated the informative and interactive sessions. Similar programmes are being organised by all Ayurveda units under the Health Deptt. across the islands for the benefit of public.
