Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 21: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ABVP ANI), organised a highly informative and impactful dual-session programme for the students of Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Mayabunder under the leadership of V.Sharan Shiva (ABVP North & Middle Convener). The event, focused on “Future Career Planning after 12th” and “Legal Awareness on Drug Abuse,” saw massive participation from eager students seeking direction for their future.
The primary objective of the initiative was to equip senior secondary students with the necessary knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their academic and professional careers while simultaneously safeguarding them from the societal menace of drug abuse.
The first session, dedicated to career guidance, provided students with a comprehensive overview of the multitude of avenues available after Class 12. The interactive session addressed students’ queries on competitive exams, university admissions, and the skills required in the modern job market, helping to clear their anxieties about future planning.
Following this, the second session shifted to a critical social issue. The Legal Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse highlighted the severe physical, psychological, and social consequences of substance abuse. More importantly, it detailed the stringent legal ramifications under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Students were educated on how a single wrong decision could derail their careers and lives, emphasising the importance of saying ‘No’ to drugs.
A representative from ABVP ANI stated, “Our youth are the future of our nation. This programme was designed with a dual purpose: to illuminate the path to their dreams through career counselling and to protect them from the pitfalls of drug abuse by making them aware of its legal consequences. The enthusiastic response from the students of Govt Model Sr. Sec. School is truly commendable.”
The event concluded on a positive note with students taking a pledge to pursue their goals with determination and to lead a healthy, drug-free life, marking a significant step towards building a conscious and empowered youth community in the islands.
