Bakultala, Sept. 19: The Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Bakultala has written to the National Highways Infrastructure Development Authority (NHIDCL) and the project contractor RKEC, seeking immediate attention to the severely deteriorated condition of the National Highway stretch between Bakultala Junction and Rangat Panitanki.
In the letter, the Pradhan highlighted that the highway has become “completely non-motorable” due to its broken surface, deep potholes, and rubble-strewn stretches. During rains, waterlogging further aggravates the situation, making it impossible for vehicles, especially emergency and public transport, to navigate safely. Frequent accidents and vehicle breakdowns have become a regular occurrence on this route, the letter noted.
The Pradhan also reminded authorities that the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations from September 26 onwards will bring a large influx of devotees, increasing the urgency to repair the road.
Calling the highway a vital lifeline for commuters, businesses, and emergency services in the region, the letter stated that its poor condition not only disrupts daily life but also hampers economic activities, education, and access to healthcare.
The Gram Panchayat has urged NHIDCL and RKEC to take “immediate corrective measures” and restore the motorability of the road before the festive season begins.
