Sri Vijayapuram, Sept 15::The State Control Room has issued a seven-day weather forecast for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, based on inputs from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata. According to the forecast, several parts of the islands are likely to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the coming week.
On Tuesday, Sept 16, no significant weather conditions have been predicted.
On Wednesday, Sept 17, heavy rain is again expected at isolated places.
On Thursday, Sept 18, the islands may witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph and lightning at one or two places across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
On Friday, Sept 19, heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) is likely at isolated places in the Andaman Islands.
On Saturday, Sept 20, thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, along with lightning, are expected at one or two places in the islands.
On Sunday, Sept 21, no significant weather conditions are forecast.
The Fishermen Warning has also been issued for the Andaman & Nicobar coast. Although no immediate threat is predicted until September 17, squally weather with surface wind speeds of 35–45 kmph gusting up to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas from September 18 to 19. The sea condition is expected to be rough with the possibility of swell waves ranging between 1.4 and 2.0 meters.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast during this period. Boats have been urged to ply with extreme caution, while recreational activities at sea should be avoided.
