
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 25:The Directorate of Health Services in collaboration with ANIIMS and AAJVS successfully conducted a Multi-Specialty Health Camp for the Jarawa tribes of Kadamtala and Luis Inlet Bay, North and Middle Andaman. The camp was conducted by Pediatrician, ENT Surgeon, Microbiologist, Dermatologist and other paramedical staff headed by Deputy Director (Tribal Health).
The Multi-specialty Health Camp was held from Aug. 18 to 21, 2025. The main objectives of the camp were to assess the health and nutritional status among the Jarawa tribe and to detect the presence of any chronic illness among them and providing in-situ treatment.
Altogether, 160 Jarawas were contacted, out of 250 populations at Kadamtala and Luis-in-let Bay areas and thorough health check-up done, recorded the Anthropometric measurements, carried out a detailed clinical examination of all the Jarawas and blood samples were collected to find out the anaemia among the tribe.
The Screening and sensitization of Sickle Cell Anaemia among the Jarawa tribe are done. Some common health issues identified included common cough and cold, Par otitis, ASOM, Tinea corporis/Scabies and Bronchopneumonia in children. Two adult and six children were referred to nearest PHC and GBPH for further investigations and management. Necessary medications were distributed to those in need.
Though the weather condition was very adverse the overall trip was significantly successful.
