Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 20:To pay tribute to the legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, the Department of Education and Sports & Youth Affairs will be organizing a Torch Relay in all three District of A&N Islands to mark National Sports Day. Hon’ble Lt. Governor has formally launched the three torches during the main function of Independence Day celebration at Netaji Stadium on Aug. 15. In this connection, a torch relay will be conducted in South Andaman District from Aug. 21 to 23, 2025.
The Torch Relay programme will start at 8 am in South Andaman on following routes:
1. Aug. 21: GSSS Model School → Middle Point→ Goalghar -Prem Nagar→ Delanipur→ Haddo→ Sea Shore Road→ Light House→ Secretariat→ RBV→ Junglighat→ Dairy Farm→ School Line→ Bathubasti- Prothrapur→ Bird Line→ Beodnabad→ Rangachang→ Chidiyatapu Beach.
2. Aug. 22: School Line → Bhathubasti -Garacharma- Sippighat→ Dhanikhari Chowk → Humfreygunj → Manglutan- Wandoor Beach.
3. Aug. 23: Chouldari →Port Mout → Ograbraj Chowk. The torch will be handed over to the Nodal Officer, DEO Wimberlygunj.
