Port Blair, Apr 18: The Director General of Police today cautioned against used of mobile phone while driving. In a press release the DGP today said that the Traffic Police regularly conducts checking against violation in the South Andaman District as a part of its effort to instill road safety awareness and to bring down the number of road accidents, but, despite checking and repeated instructions published in the media still a large number of drivers of different category of vehicles i.e. Two Wheeler, Three Wheeler, LMV, Medium, Auto Rickshaw, Buses and heavy Vehicles are found to be using mobile phone while driving which is a violation of Traffic Rules/ Act.
The Traffic Police shall implement this rule strictly w.e.f. 22/04/2013 and violators will be challaned Rs. 1000/- for dangerous driving if found talking over phone while driving.
“Therefore, all vehicle drivers are hereby once again directed not to use their mobile phones while driving failing which stringent action will be initiated against them under dangerous driving apart from referring their case to the Licensing Authority to suspend their driving license. It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 2013 to till date we have already taken action against 150 drivers who were found using mobile phone while driving,” a communication from DGP, Andaman and Nicobar said.
