Sree Vijyapuram, July 2:The Sree Vijyapuram private bus stand, a vital transit point for commuters travelling to Rangat, Mayabunder, and Diglipur, is in an alarming state of disrepair, drawing sharp criticism from passengers and locals alike. The stand, which sees hundreds of daily footfalls, lacks even the most basic facilities, raising serious concerns about public safety and hygiene.
With the onset of the monsoon, the situation has become even more dire. Water seeps into the waiting area during rains, turning the platform into a flooded zone. Passengers, often including elderly citizens and women with children, are forced to perch on benches to avoid standing in ankle-deep water. The existing shelter is wholly inadequate, with portions of the roof railing already falling off, offering little to no protection from the rain.
What adds to the passengers’ woes is the absence of clean drinking water and usable as well as clean toilets. Despite being a central point for private buses operating long routes, the stand lacks sanitation facilities, leaving passengers helpless during long waits. The poor infrastructure not only inconveniences travellers but also paints a grim picture of civic neglect in Sree Vijyapuram.
Frustrated commuters have begun voicing their grievances, questioning why such an important public facility remains in such a neglected state. “Even a basic covered hall with fans, drinking water and clean toilets would make a huge difference. Is that too much to ask from the administration?” asked a visibly agitated passenger waiting to board a bus.
The absence of a modern, safe, and secure bus stand has now become a matter of urgency. Residents argue that a proper passenger terminal would not only enhance the commuting experience but also boost the image of Sree Vijyapuram as a developing hub. With thousands relying on this facility every month, the need for a functional and dignified waiting area cannot be overstated.
