Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 26: The Chairman of the Campaign Committee, ANTCC Mr. TSG Bhasker has strongly objected to the recent draft notifications issued by the A&N Administration reducing the upper age limit to 27 years for recruitment to the posts of Mazdoor/Field Worker under the Directorate of Health Services and Surveyor under the Revenue Department.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Mr. TSG. Bhasker, has termed the move “unjust, discriminatory, and damaging to the aspirations of thousands of Islander youths” who have long awaited employment opportunities in government services.
He highlighted that due to a prolonged gap in recruitment drives for Group C and D posts, many eligible candidates have already become overage. “Now, by reducing the upper age limit instead of expanding opportunities, the Administration is further denying justice to the youth,” the letter stated.
As per employment exchange data, over 85,000 youths are estimated to be unemployed in the Islands in 2025. While only 4,915 job appointments were given during the Rozgar Melas held in 2023 and 2024, the remaining large pool of job seekers still waits for fair opportunities.
Mr. Bhasker emphasized that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, being an isolated and economically limited Union Territory with minimal private sector presence, rely heavily on government jobs.
He has urged the Administration to amend the draft notification and restore the age limit in line with other States and UT’s, ensuring that recruitment is inclusive and fair. “This is not just about jobs; it is about securing the future of our youth,” he concluded.
