Mayabunder, June 26: In an welcome development, the long-awaited repair work on the deteriorated district road in Mayabunder—from Neemtala Danapur to Burmadeera—commenced this morning. The move comes shortly after a public outcry led by Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh of Mayabunder, who had written to the district administration highlighting the road’s dangerous condition and administrative inaction.
Mr. Siddique confirmed the initiation of the repair work and extended his heartfelt gratitude to Smt. Nandini Maharaj (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman District; Mr. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD; and Mr. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, for their prompt response to the issue.
Earlier, Mr. Siddique had raised serious concerns in a detailed letter dated June 24, pointing out that the road, riddled with major potholes and poor surfaces, had become a hazard for daily commuters and vehicle operators. He accused the NACD officials of neglecting public welfare and diverting resources for personal use.
The commencement of repair work is being seen as a welcome relief for the residents of Mayabunder, many of whom had been preparing for public protests if the issue remained unaddressed.
