Port Blair, June 17: In commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of the great tribal legend Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram Mayabunder unit has decided to conduct series of 25 different programmes/ activities in 2025, wherein a Career Guidance Programme – NIRMAN has been organized as forth event of this year.
The one day long Career Guidance Programme titled “NIRMAN” was organised on 14th June, 2025 at Danapur Community Hall under Gram Panchayat Pokkadera for the students of above class 10th and for the youths. This event is organised to provide direction and motivation to the aspiring youth of these islands. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youths, experts and government departments alike.
The programme was formally inaugurated with the lightening of traditional lamp by the Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Shri Tarun Kumar Mondal from the District and Sessions Court, North & Middle Andaman, Mayabunder who graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Shri Tarun Kumar Mondal emphasized the importance of informed career choices and encouraged students to aim high while remaining rooted in discipline and hard work.
As a mark of encouragement, meritorious students of CBSE Exams – 2025 from Class 10 and 12 were felicitated with mementos of “Bhagwan Birsa Munda Medhavi Chatra Abhinandan” by the Chief Guest for their academic achievements. This gesture aimed to inspire other students to strive for excellence in their studies. In the inaugural session, Surgeon Lt. Deepankur Dasila, Medical Officer and Assistant Commandant Tulsidas Bhardwaj, Commanding Officer of Indian Coast Guard Ship-C-416 from Indian Coast Guard Station, Mayabunder have explored the insights on Career in Defence and Indian Coast Guard.
Afterwards, Career counseling sessions were conducted by Smti K. Binu, Vocational Guidance Officer, and Shri Dinesh Moorthy, Assistant Employment Officer from the Model Career Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram. They have provided students with practical information on current employment trends, skill development opportunities and government support programs. Interactive sessions allowed students to ask questions about various fields and clarified their doubts.
To give students a broad exposure to possible career paths, representatives from multiple departments and institutions participated as resource persons. Which included different topics pertaining to career, State Bank of India (SBI), Mayabunder and Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank (ANSCB), Mayabunder – highlighted the opportunities in banking and finance and assistance of banking sector for self employment, Dr. Sujata Hegde, Senior Veterinary Officer from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services covered the topic on careers in animal care and veterinary sciences associating to this Smti S. Manju, Agriculture Assistant from the Department of Agriculture has discussed the modern farming techniques and agri- entrepreneurship later in the afternoon session Shri Dinesh Meena, Sub Inspector of Police alongwith Police Constable Shri Sujoy Mazumdar have focused on career in Police Service and other armed forces as well as thrown lights on how to prepare for the civil services exams. The Career guidance Programme incorporated seven sessions and concluded with session by Shri Tapan Biswas, Assistant Director, Department of Fisheries, Mayabunder who has very deeply presented the career prospects in marine and inland fisheries management.
More than 100 students from various schools & colleges actively participated in the Career Guidance Programme and thanked Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram for such initiative. The atmosphere was energetic and inquisitive, with students showing a keen interest in learning about diverse career options. The NIRMAN: Career Guidance Programme served as a bridge between young aspirants and knowledgeable professionals, helping students to understand the skills, qualifications, and mindset required to succeed in various fields. The event concluded with a note of thanks to all the guests, departments, and volunteers whose contribution made the event a grand success. The Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram continues its commitment to the holistic development of tribal and rural youth through education, skill-building, and community support.
