Baratang, May 27: In a tragic incident caused by sudden gusty winds on the afternoon of May 26, a large wild tree fell on the house of Mr. Sukra Badaik, a resident of Sundergarh, Ward No. 01, under Baratang jurisdiction. Fortunately, no family members were present inside the house at the time of the incident, which occurred around 3:15 PM.
Mr. Sukra Badaik, who belongs to a financially poor family, now faces severe hardship with his home partially damaged and uninhabitable. The structure suffered significant impact from the uprooted tree, leaving the family without a secure roof. Local residents reported the incident immediately, and initial assessments suggest the house will require substantial repairs to be livable again.
Expressing concern over the poor family’s situation, Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang, Mr. Alager Swami has formally requested the Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman to sanction suitable compensation at the earliest.
Additionally, Mr. Alager Swami has appealed to the Forest Department to extend immediate support by providing essential construction materials such as wooden poles (khamba) and bamboo (balli) from the forest stock, enabling the affected family to begin reconstruction.
