Sri Vijaya Puram, May 21:In accordance with the A&N Marine Fishing Rules, 2004, the following areas specified is prohibited for fishing in the Territorial water of Andaman and Nicobar Islands:
• Areas falling within the port limits as defined in the Indian Ports Act, 1908 (15 of 1908)
• Areas reserved for Aboriginal Tribes of the Islands under the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Protection of Aboriginal Tribes) (Regulation) 1956 (Regulation No. 3 of 1956)
• Areas Protected or Prohibited in the Islands under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Nothing contained in the said rule shall apply to any class or classes of fishing vessels for innocent passage to carry out fishing in the permitted areas.
The fishermen/fish traders/general public of A&N Islands have been advised to strictly comply the above provisions of A&N Marine Fishing Rules, 2004 for prohibited areas of fishing. Failing to comply, necessary action shall be taken as per the provisions contained in the A&N Marine Fishing Rules,2004 and its amendments.
