Port Blair, Apr 1: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC in his letter addressed to the Administrator has seeked immediate intervention to roll back the increase in the ferry prices for two wheelers, four wheelers and passengers.
Mr. Sharma through his letter also informed the Administrator that nearly 25,000 people including labours, farmers, students, office goers and DRMs etc travel by boat from Bambooflat to Chatham and Phoenix Bay and back every day. To reach to their destination and return back to their residences they bring their two and four wheelers.
Mr. Sharma added that last year the fare for carrying two and four wheelers by boats was already enhanced exorbitantly and again this year, as per the new rate, the commuters have to pay Rs. 23/- for two wheelers which was Rs 15/-, and Rs. 160/- for the four wheelers which was Rs. 90/- w.e.f 1.4.13.
He has also added that passenger ticket has also been enhanced from Rs. 5/- to Rs 6/- per person and this unwanted sudden hike in the fare will be an added burden on the commuters in these hard days.
