Port Blair, Mar 17: If you wonder how Hell looks like, you must visit the toilet blocks of Jawaharlal Rajakiya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM). People, present in two blocks on the both sides of these Toilet Blocks, allege that the aroma of these Toilet blocks keep them occupied for entire day hence they can’t focus on lectures.
The impact is so powerful that students have now written a warning note on the doors of the toilet block urging users to “keep the door closed.”
Following complaints when Andaman Sheekha contacted Dr. Iqbal Ahmed, Principal, JNRM to know the reasons for the bad state of the toilet blocks, he said that the toilets are under repair and students are not suppose to use it but still they are using it. However, Andaman Sheekha did not find any signboard of “TOILET UNDER REPAIR” in entire college.
The principal informed that they have been approaching APWD since long to repair these toilet blocks but till today it has not been repaired.
According to reports, situation is same in the toilet blocks of Boys’ Hostel of JNRM too.
However one of the senior students of the College told Andaman Sheekha that it is not the sole responsibility of the authorities to take care of these Toilet blocks, students have their own share of faults too. He informed that sometimes students indulge in vandalism and break different things inside toilets.
“Most of the students do not flush after using toilet, which is the prime reason for the bad state of the toilets,” the student of PG class said.
Whatever is the reason, the students are suffering heavily in the college, often staffs also go through this hell. The College authority must sit with officers of APWD and Students to find out a way to repair and proper maintenance of these toilet blocks.
