Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 08: The Directorate of Social Welfare today organized an informative and impactful awareness program focusing on the Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. This initiative, held under the banner of the “ill Effect of drug abuse” under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, took place in Goalghar.
The program commenced with a comprehensive session led by Mrs. Anchamma (Project Assistant, NAPDDR), who highlighted the grave consequences of substance abuse not only on individuals but also on families and society at large. In her keynote address, she emphasized the government’s commitment to making India drug-free through the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which aims to spread awareness, prevent addiction, and support recovery.
Dr. Nitin Sakya, Directorate of Social Welfare, aims at the urgent need to combat the increasing drug-related issues, particularly among the youth. “Drug abuse is a threat to the fabric of our society”. “It destroys lives, devastates families, and weakens communities. This program aims to raise awareness, educate the public, and offer support to those in need. We must work together to protect our future generations from this danger.”
Dr. M.K. Mahato(IRCA), an expert in substance abuse and mental health, highlighted the key problems faced by individuals struggling with drug addiction during his address at the awareness program. According to him, drug addiction not only affects a person’s physical health but also severely impacts their mental, emotional, and social well-being.
He interacted directly with the participants, engaging them in discussions about the dangers of substance abuse and the power of collective action. Dr. M.K. Mahato, words inspired many in the audience to reflect on the choices they make and motivated them to seek and spread awareness to prevent addiction. His message focused on resilience, hope, and the importance of supporting one another in the fight against substance abuse.
