Port Blair, Aug 21: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) bags the number 1 Rank award in the category of “Open Universities” under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of Ministry of Education. Recently, the Ministry of Education introduced three new categories, open universities, skill university, and state-funded-government universities. IGNOU emerged as the top ‘Open University’ in India as per the NIRF 2024 ranking followed by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (Kolkata) and Ambedkar Open University (Ahmedabad). The university offers various degree, certificate, and diploma programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The open university has been accredited with the highest National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)grade A++. IGNOU has become an important element in making higher education accessible to students who need flexible schedules, often working professionals or students in remote areas.
