Port Blair, Aug 21: On August 19, 2024, the team of Police Station Humfrygunj apprehended 03 persons involved in illegal wildlife trade and seized 02 kgs of protected turtle meat.
Information has been received from a reliable source at PS Humfrygunj regarding sale of wildlife protected meat. Subsequently, SI Subramani, SHO PS Humfrygunj swiftly constituted a team comprising PCs Raja, Nitesh Baidya, Naresh Ch Sarkar and Laxmi Rani Mondal and reached the spot. Later, one person was intercepted at the spot and on checking, the Police party found suspected WildLife Protected Turtle meat approx 01 Kg from the possession of Amit Biswas (48) yrs Fishermen R/o Hasmatabad, who was detained and interrogated on the spot. During the interrogation, he disclosed that the illegal wildlife protected turtle meat was brought from one Madhav Bairagi of Wandoor. Upon this, Madhav Bairagi was also apprehended and during interrogation, it has been also revealed that he had further sold 1 kg of turtle meat to Subrato Biswas of Wandoor and subsequently, Subroto Biswas was also apprehended.
Altogether, 02 Kgs approx turtle meat was seized and persons namely 1) Amit Biswas S/o Mr. Srikanto Biswas (48) yrs Fisherman R/o Hasmatabad 2) Madhav bairagi S/o Late Shanti Bairagi (31) yrs Fishermen R/o Wandoor near Shiv Mandir and 3) Subrato Biswas S/o Mr. Sudanshu Biswas (24) yrs Fishermen R/o Wandoor near Shiv Mandir were detained after observing all codal formalities. Later, the seized properties and the detained persons were handed over to Forest official, Manglutan for initiating further legal action.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Bambooflat Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS and overall supervision of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
