
Port Blair, Jul 21: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party led by its Prabhari Mr. Raghunath Kulkarni, National Executive Member and Prabhari Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President BJP, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Mr. Vivek Dadhakar, State General Secretary Org. met Lieutenant Governor Mr. D K Joshi and raised several important issue related to the benefit of Islanders. The most important was timely and fast completion of National Highway 4 along with Baratang Bridge, as because of the delay the North and Middle Andaman Islanders are facing serious hardship. Secondly a major issue of Conversion and diversion of Land be resumed forthwith Citizen Charter to be strictly adhered, the general Islanders a real difficult time in land matters. This also included reducing exorbitant rate of Stamp Duty and Circle Charges as it was in past by consulting the Stake Holders, as this burning holes in pocket of Islanders.
They also raised a very important issue of drinking water as every year this issue remains constant. They suggested Installation of Desalination Plant in Islands to have proper supply of drinking water. The major issue of power crisis was also discussed were a 50MW LNG plant was suppose to establish and run. This will provide continuous power supply. A Major point discussed was Devolution of powers of the panchayati Raj system, were time and again the PRI members were robbed off by their powers making a mockery of governance in grass root level. It is necessary to provide sufficient funds and powers to PRIs to work for the upliftment of villagers. The LG gave a patient hearing and assured to look upto the issues positively.
