Port Blair, Jul 21: The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) proudly announces the successful culmination of the 100 years celebration of International Chess Day, marking a significant milestone in the global chess community. This year’s celebration held special significance as it commemorated the 100th anniversary of the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
To commemorate this historic occasion, FIDE embarked on a Guinness World Record attempt for the most games played within 24 hours on July 20, 2024, globally. ANCA enthusiastically participated in this endeavour by organizing the “International Chess Day #100 Years Simul Event” at Marina Park, in front of the Govt. Girls School, yesterday evening.
The event was inaugurated by esteemed chief guest Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, who ceremonially made the first move on the chessboard. Joining him were Mrs.. Rekha Bhasker, Patron of ANCA, distinguished guests and office bearers of the association. International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra, a renowned FIDE Trainer and Chess Coach from Jharkhand, engaged in a simultaneous chess exhibition against budding chess players from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, creating a momentous experience for all participants.
Approximately 100 young chess players participated in the chess simul event with great enthusiasm. The event concluded with a closing ceremony during which Mr. G Bhasker, Chief Patron of ANCA, personally presented certificates to all the participants, acknowledging their dedication and skill in the game.
The ANCA extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, supporters, and volunteers whose dedication contributed to the success of this memorable celebration. The event not only honoured the rich heritage of chess but also inspired future generations of chess players in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
