Port Blair, Feb 21: Mr. B.P Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration has demanded for providing relief to the passengers stranded on the ship M.V Nicobar at Vishakhapatnam.
He added that most of the passengers among the 700 on board hail from economically weak strata and are in crisis. These people had undertaken their onward Journey with limited or no money in hand.
“Now if they are left stranded at Vishakhapatnam they are sure to face acute hardship without water, food and shelter. Some of these passengers are patients need immediate medical attention,” he said in his letter.
He requested the Administration to extend all possible assistance to all the passengers. He further added that Administration may request for cooperation and assistance of Vishakhapatnam Port Trust and the Andhra Pradesh Government in extending basic needs to the stranded Passengers. He also informed the Chief Secretary that he will talk to the Ministry of Shipping on this matter.
