Port Blair, May 21: The Directorate of Social Welfare conducted an impactful awareness program at Gandhi Park aimed at educating the general public and children about the vital services provided by Child Helpline 1098. The event, inaugurated by Mrs. Beena Das, Helpline Administrator, CHL-1098, featured a comprehensive session that underscored the importance of the helpline in safeguarding children’s welfare.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasized the critical need for timely and adequate assistance for children. He highlighted the role of society in being vigilant and responsive to the needs of its youngest members. He also stated that “The Child Helpline 1098 is a significant step towards creating a safer environment for every child. Empowered and educated community members are fundamental in bringing about this change,”.
The awareness program included an informative session detailing the extensive range of services provided by Child Helpline 1098, such as counseling, emergency intervention, and rehabilitation support for children in distress. Participants were given a demonstration of the Women and Child Development (WCD) control room and the CHL-1098 operations, showcasing the Helpline’s 24/7, year-round availability.
Mrs. Beena Das, Helpline Administrator, CHL-1098 elaborated on the critical role of Child Helpline 1098, outlining four key points:-
24/7 Availability: The helpline operates around the clock, ensuring that help is always accessible whenever a child is in need.
Comprehensive Support Services: It offers a wide range of services, including counseling, emergency response, and rehabilitation for children facing abuse, neglect, or other forms of distress.
Accessibility: The helpline is toll-free and easily reachable, making it a lifeline for children and concerned individuals across the country.
Confidentiality: The service ensures the privacy and confidentiality of the callers, creating a safe space for children to seek help without fear of repercussions.
The program aimed to foster a more informed and responsive community, better equipped to support and protect its youngest members. By raising awareness about the services of Child Helpline 1098, Directorate of Social Welfare hopes to create a safer and more nurturing environment for all children.
