Bakultala, May 14: Frustrated by the ongoing water crisis in Bakultala and surrounding areas, a large group of villagers gathered near the APWD office in Bakultala today to express their concerns. Residents reported receiving water supply only once in seven to eight days, highlighting the severity of the situation.
After a meeting with APWD officials, villagers were assured of necessary action to address the crisis. However, dissatisfaction persists among the locals over the prolonged water scarcity.
Meanwhile, the Pradhan of Bakultala, Mr. Narayan Mandal has taken a proactive step by writing a letter to several authorities, including the Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary, and Deputy Commissioner, urging immediate action to resolve the water crisis.
In the letter, the Pradhan highlights the dire situation faced by over 10,000 residents and more than 3000 families across Bakultala, Urmilapur, and Kaushalyanagar Gram Panchayats. The proposal, initiated by Gram Panchayat Bakultala ten years ago, calls for the construction of a new dam and a new filter bed with a capacity of 30,00,000 liters. Additionally, it seeks to improve the existing pipeline from Panchwati to Bakultala.
The letter emphasizes the deteriorating condition of the pipeline laid by APWD over 25 years ago, which has led to frequent leaks and water wastage. Despite numerous water crises over the years, no substantial improvements have been made to the infrastructure, aggravating the current situation.
With residents facing water shortages every 8-12 days, the Pradhan urges authorities to take urgent steps to upgrade the pipeline network and construct necessary infrastructure to mitigate the crisis.
