Port Blair, May 13: The District Child Protection Unit under District Administration, South Andaman, in collaboration with Andaman Avians Club, celebrated Endemic Bird Day India 2024, by organizing a two days summer camp for the children of various Child Care Institutions.
The event focused on the “Introduction to Birding” and developed insight among the children towards captivating world of birds and the importance of habitat conservation.
The first day program was a classroom session, held at Seva Niketan, on 10th may 2024, wherein a range of informative and interactive session on the rich avian biodiversity of the Andaman Islands had been highlighted thereby emphasizing the importance of habitat conversation, by Mr. Prashant Sarathi, Educator of Avians Club.
Following the classroom session, the next day on 11th May 2024 children were taken to the field at Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, under the guidance of avians team led by Mr. M G. Madanan, President Avians Club. During the field visit, children were divided in groups and had the privilege to watch 26 bird species including 06 endemic birds. All the participants enthusiastically connected with the nature through bird watching.
The program ended by extending gratitude to all the 105 participants including 75 children along with volunteers for their contributions to this memorable event.
The District administration ensures to conduct such events for the children of Child Care Institutions so that children are provided with a unique opportunity to connect with the nature, so as to develop sensitivity towards nurturing the environment as a whole.
