Port Blair, May 05: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to include the Jarawa Tribes in the Electoral Process of 2029 Parliament Election.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the Member of Parliament expressed his sincere appreciation for the participation of the Shompen Tribe in the voting process in considerable numbers during the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
He added that Islanders have till now witnessed inclusion of Nicobari, Onge, Great Andamanese and Shompen Tribes in the electoral process, which is a significant step towards strengthening our democracy and upholding the principles of equality and justice.
In light of this positive development, he stressed on the importance of ensuring the inclusion of the Jarawa Tribes in the election process as well. The Jarawa Tribes, like other Tribes, are an integral part of our constituency, and their voices deserve to be heard.
Hence he requested the Lt. Governor to take proactive measures to facilitate the participation of the Jarawa Tribes in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. This may require special arrangements and outreach programs to ensure their awareness of their rights and responsibilities as voters.
