Port Blair, Apr 22: Since 5 PM on April 19, the Campbell Bay Petrol Pump has stopped petrol distribution, citing a lack of stock. This sudden shortage has left the local residents facing significant difficulties, especially for commuting purposes.
According to sources, the next stock of petrol is expected to arrive with the next ship, although the exact arrival date remains uncertain. When contacted, ANIIDCO officials explained that the responsibility lies with IOCL. Daily follow-ups have been initiated with the department, with assurances from IOCL that the first batch will be loaded onto MV Chuglam tomorrow, destined for Campbell Bay.
The root cause of the problem seems to stem from the reliance on a single ship for supplying LPG and Petrol/ Diesel remote islands. To solve this issue, people of Great Nicobar are suggesting the administration to deploy additional ships to ensure timely delivery of essential supplies like petrol, diesel, and cylinders.
