
Port Blair, Apr 19: Today morning witnessed good enthusiasm among voters who have come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise to elect their representative for the 18th Lok Sabha. Despite the sweltering heat, people were seen in long queues in various polling stations of the city and its suburbs, to cast their votes.
The first time voters came out to exercise their franchise with pride beaming on their faces while the elderly persons too came out to exercise their right in their respective polling booths with confidence. The Particular Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) Shompens, Great Andamanese, Onges of this UT enthusiastically participated in the great festival of democracy. The Shompens tribes of Nicobar District first time casted their votes and they are very happy to use their democratic rights.

The overall poll percentage of A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency stood at 63.99% Polling was conducted in a peaceful and smooth manner throughout the Islands and there was no untoward incident reported from any part of the Islands. Brisk polling was noticed during morning and evening hours and the polling booths witnessed a good turn-out everywhere.
