Port Blair, Feb 14: Consumption of poisonous puffer fish led to death of two fishermen this morning at Wandoor village of South Andaman region.
According to police sources three more persons including one minor is still admitted in hospital with symptoms of fish poisoning.
“They got a football shaped puffer fish last night and they knew the fish is poisonous but still they cooked the eggs of the fish and had it last night. Since mid-night all of them started getting reactions and vomiting sensations,” a villager of the Wandoor told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
According to reports both the victims Tinku Mazumder and Paritosh Das were immediately rushed to Primary Health Centre of Manglutan where the first person died and the second person died after he was referred to A& N Islands’ lone referral hospital, G B Pant Hospital at Prot Blair city.
“They knew that a few years back all members of a family had died in nearby Chouldary Village after consuming the same fish but still for reasons unknown they took the risk of eating the eggs of the fish,” sources in police department said. According to experts Andaman Sea has more than 200 species of venomous fishes.
Very sad, but really don’t know how people after knowing the danger of such species, still deliberately ate.
