Port Blair, Mar 10: The Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. B. S Jaglan, IAS today visited the proposed Receipt Centre, Counting Centre and Strong Room at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair to review the infrastructural and security arrangements at the Counting Centre and Strong Room to be made as per the instructions of Election Commission of India in view of the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha – 2024. On completion of poll, the polled EVMs, VVPATs and other materials shall be transported from the Polling Station to the Receipt Centre and will be stored at aforesaid Strong Room under proper security.
The CEO during his visit directed the concerned officers to make sure about the availability of facilities/infrastructure adequate storage space, water, toilets, first aid facilities, regular electricity supply, fire-fighting equipment, communication and 3 layer security arrangement as per the SoP of Election Commission of India. Further, he directed that at the Counting Centre, the facilities of the Public Address System, Media Centre, and Communication Centre etc. should also be made ready.
The Returning Officer, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS and other officers of APWD, Electricity were present.
